Currently, the little known world of shonen mainly three major successes: One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. One could almost say it's the holy trinity of gender, at least in terms of shonen "modern". But these titles are they necessarily good? If we can not answer that affirmatively on One Piece, he must weigh the pros and cons for Bleach, unfortunately ...
Ichigo Kurosagi is a grumpy little boy and a fighter but more importantly, someone who has the power to see the wandering spirits. One evening, a Hollow (evil spirit) wants to devour him and his family. Rukia Kuchiki, a shinigami (god of death) comes to help but a problem never comes alone, she is forced to give powers to Ichigo to defeat the Hollow. The young man has no choice and agrees to save his family, shining the Hollow quickly. But it does not have powers like that to one who has lent and Ichigo will therefore have to work instead Shinigami Rukia for some time. On this basis, that will not last very long, that begins Bleach, new manga by Tite Kubo after the flop of Zombie Powder, his previous effort. Rather rock fan, especially of Nirvana, the mangaka gives the name of a group of albums to his new shonen. And this time, the success this quickly responds, Bleach containing the main characteristics of a successful shonen.
Say what is, this is probably not through his first books that Bleach has been such a celebrity. If they are not annoying, they do not excite much, Ichigo Hollow from one to another. If Kubo does not benefit to implement other important figures in history, it does not follow this with great conviction. This is not the fault of the drawings, very clear, simple but effective and stylish, but rather enemies. Those big monsters that are the Hollows, although as outlined also does not really have a charisma of madness, each worse than the previous. Only those with a common past with Ichigo just a little upset the purr in which withdraws the shonen in his first books. Fortunately, Kubo changes direction from Volume 6, the Soul Society, the organization which is Rukia, overtaking the latter. Completed monsters, up to Shinigami. Bleach therefore falls within a relatively classic shonen as before, the disturbing side of the arc Hollows leaving room for a rescue mission as Mario and Luigi have known hundreds. After a defeat as it is required to have at the beginning of a new party, Ichigo and his friends are training to go into town hideout Shinigami. But this does not suffice to make a great shonen Bleach, at most an extra on the shelves of bookstores. But Kubo is an excellent idea to bring a side thriller over the death of one of the captains of Soul Society. Bleach thus falls into a kind of double plot, one side of one who wants to get Ichigo and Rukia, on the other, the investigation of "enemies". And it works from the thunder for a few volumes, the course of bringing the action hero when the doubts of their opponents bring intrigue and doubt. The tension is palpable in the beginning of the arc, giving the impression that the protagonists are tackling something big for their frail shoulders but also a danger in the short shadow. Bleach and was at its height, design reaching the bottom via a scenario smoothly conducted. But that was too good and it will not last ...
For if Kubo's successful entry into the Soul Society handily, he will miss the final, at least in half. Perhaps he was too anxious to please his fans or he had a great desire to bastones dry but remains as the latest volumes of this party are just fighting, only fight. Just one of the captains, young Hitsugaya, continue to investigate his side but the damage is done ... Drowned in these battles, the script takes a little water and inevitably disappoints the reader that there was attached. If still fighting reserved great moments, it would be bad for a good, but again disappointment is the rule. Kubo takes pleasure in making up the pressure before each fighting for, ultimately, does little to show. When they are not dispatched quickly, they simply are not shown. The most obvious concerns the battle between the old Yamamoto and his two captains preferred abbreviated so shameful when a whole chapter was dedicated to introducing it. Infuriating, to say the least ... You can thank the character Byakuya Kuchiki whose fights are always successful. If it was not there, the action would suffer greatly. It is also the only secondary character that Kubo is used well, creating other disappointments for the luckiest of representation for the others ... But they breathed a certain charisma, over its design as for their psychology . But here, too watch his beloved Ichigo, it forgets to develop these and it is thus difficult to feel concerned. And the final revelation shall come up the level that few, very unfortunately ...
The result will be based more or less following the same modus operandi. Kubo will create a plethora of enemies and have fun at increasing the power of his old characters, sometimes to ridiculous (Madarame). From that moment, Bleach goes into automatic mode and will not be a succession of battles, more or less successful, punctuated by changes of Ichigo. Everything is done to caress the reader in the right way, every moment of bravery being a way to display the more "poseur attitude" of the whole. Kubo does not even try to continue with an original plot because Rukia is the poitrinée Inoue will save it. There are attempts to bring the front of the stage characters just placed on the floor as Ishida and Sado but a little vain ... without either falling into the extremely poor, Bleach is only average, just interesting because of its graphic licked his female characters in beneficial ways and its very modern and especially popular with young readers. A good way to dive into the world of manga but certainly not one to advise shonen otaku experienced. Too bad, it started very well ...
