Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie is a veteran of modern times, a sort of Captain Cave touches everything and on all fronts but that remains less known than his colleagues. He officiated in music from the 80s, trying to provide a metal that is both modern and catchy, but is less mentioned that training like Slipknot or System Of A Down, but far less talented. And it's the same price for his films: the horrific little pearls, which look to the past while remaining contemporary. But Hostel or Saw, less original, it still steal the show. Why is Rob's success in the U.S.? Who is he really? Enter the roundabout with fear ...
The life of Rob Zombie is a bit of a success story, more macabre and fun. However, there is no hint of such courses to the singer. Born January 12, 1966 in Massachusetts to a girl working in the circus world for two generations. Amidst these showmen, they imagined that the young Robert Cummings (whose real name) has probably crossed bearded women and other oddities, which developed in him a love of the strange. This falls quite well since it was regarded as weird kid from school, not necessarily the kind of sport and even less popular. He still played hockey and wanted to be very professional at the time, but this desire soon disappeared. What changed his life, the discovery of comics and especially for an album. One day, going at a record store, the young man falls over two albums that attracted his attention. One of the Beatles and "Creatures of the Night" by KISS. As he said himself, he had a choice between the hippies or the super-hero. In other words, for a boy his age and with his tastes, the choice was quickly made. Returning fully in the fantasy world in music, he decided to push the matter further, returning to the cinematic level. He then discovered horror films, which became his passion. It is decided one way or another, it will relate to this.

But we do not get what you want a magic wand, the road is long and sometimes fraught with odd jobs. Thus, after leaving high school to art school, Rob goes through food jobs as a technician on a television, bicycle messenger or designer for a porn magazine. Only after all this he embarks on the adventure of music and formed his first band, White Zombie. True to his love, he named the band in reference to an old film of the same name, dating from 1932 with Bela Lugosi. And like it better if it is surrounded, he gave the position of bassist for his girlfriend at the time, Sean Yseult, then it takes the position of vocalist. If White Zombie is best known for being one of the first groups to have launched the movement known industrial metal (a metal cold enough, using machines or samples), the beginnings were not exactly the same ilk. Far from the metal filled with catchy and memorable choruses that would happen next, the band played at that time a sort of garage-rock a little psychedelic at the intersection of punk and metal. Rob took care of virtually everything from composition to organize concerts, through design kits or T-shirts. They made several 45T. and EP (a CD containing usually only 4 or 5 songs) before making their first album: Soul Crusher. Will soon Make Them Die Slowly, still in a psychedelic tone, the influence of horror movies on Rob is being particularly felt in the words and imagery. But now, even though they are increasingly known and Iggy Pop supports the group is not satisfied with the music produced. It is also not a coincidence that none of the songs on these albums is played during the concerts ...

But everything will work out later with the signing at Geffen Records in 1990 (ie 5 years after its formation). Two years pass and the band released The Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1. An album that retains some fragments of the past but still moving towards something more heavy, heavier, more metal. This works fairly well and the band goes on concerts. The song "Thunder Kiss 65" becomes a hit will be even remixed by KMFDM, one of the founding groups of industrial style. Ideas germinate in the mind of vocalist and in 1995 he created what remains one of the cornerstones of the style: Astro Creep 2000. Completed follies psyche and the side garage rock, White Zombie gives more weight to samples and makes his music more catchy. The album, very varied, full of hits and predict great success (triple platinum). Rob Zombie even received an award at the MTV Awards for his achievement on the video for "More Human Than Human", last hit the group. Experience director with more than he liked, he will undertake to do the same for all clips in the group, or even for the guys (Prong) and family (Powerman 5000, group of his little brother). 96 seems the year of consecration for himself and the band since its very success, Astro Creep 2000 is entitled to a remix album, Supersexy Swingin 'Sounds very successful and meet him as a major success. It also appears that the drawings of Rob found anywhere in the booklet Astro Creep had caught the eye of several people, including Mike Judge. Director and brains behind the series Beavis & Butt-Head, who already claimed White Zombie through a few episodes, the man proposes to Rob to draw and design a scene in the movie where two characters traveling through America. Rob agrees and thus takes care of the scene of Beavis hallucinations in the desert after he had swallowed a fungus doubtful. Not content to create a truly monstrous trip, the brave man also signs the music scene. This is the beginning of the glory, the name of the group moving more and more. They are found even in the original soundtracks of several fantasy films such as Los Angeles 2013, Judge Dredd, but also comedies like Ace Ventura 2. But it is in the midst of this fair to the recognition that Rob left the band (and Sean Yseult at the same time), eager to try the solo adventure ...

Say what is, when a musician leaves the boat like that to go solo, he is allowed to be very afraid. Especially since White Zombie did not survive the departure of Rob, who brought with him drummer John Tempesta. But ultimately, it is evil for it, Rob Zombie arrogating services and Riggs Blasko, bassist and guitarist respectively. All this beautiful world decides to keep the recipe that made the success of Astro Creep while passing the second execution speed up a notch, Tempesta pounding his drums with more rage as he did for groups thrash like Exodus or Testament. Hellbily Deluxe was born so this new union in 1998, pushing things even further than did White Zombie. Samples, memorable choruses, riffs and rhythmic sharp horrific mood: everything is there to the delight of fans. The album is filled with hits that like "Dragula", "Superbeast" and "Living Dead Girls," songs still very regularly used for movies when they are older than ten years. As usual, Rob turns clips for the tubes, enabling it to meet the love, namely, Sheri Moon, who plays in all and never leave the beard. Now with a budget more comfortable, the demon of industrial metal concerts heals up, seeing them as real entertainment. Stripper, giant robots, mechanical hands for the singer, ... It is a hellish circus that Rob Zombie invites metallers, obviously pleased. As in the days of White Zombie, Rob Zombie is found in all good BO, those horror movies like Bride of Chucky, Blair Witch 2, Psycho, but also of blockbusters like Matrix. Better yet, the man becomes like Alice Cooper, his idol, namely a boogeyman. He becomes friends with the singer, with whom he will duets. Hellbilly Deluxe has been a huge success (3 million copies sold), it was logical that he also is entitled to his remixing the album American Made Music To Strip By. Less successful than the first, it really does not restore the greatness of the original album but has still sold well. Rob then tried to break into movies, including trying to make the third film in the franchise, The Crow. Unfortunately, it ended badly, and Rob must be abandoned. It still falls back on script written by himself: The House of 1000 Corpses. The film is financed by Universal, Rob takes much time to turn, not without a role to his now wife Sheri Moon Zombie. But then, when shown the finished product to the officers of the company, everyone gets scared. Finding the film too bizarre and devoid of morality, they refuse to leave. Rob will then have to start hunting for production houses, but in the process, shows an album: The Sinister Urge. In the tradition of his predecessor, Rob just adds a few more shades or funky pop to his industrial metal, always as effective. It can even invite a few famous friends like Ozzy Osbourne, Kerry King of Slayer or Tommy Lee of Motley Crue.

But now, even if Rob is still capable of great albums out, his head was elsewhere. It is in the film, and keep the House of 1000 Corpses in his drawer for 4 years begins to weigh. But a legend was created around the film over time. Logic, everyone wants to see the famous movie that scares all Universal. And that Lionsgate Films has understood and agreed to release the movie, enjoying the buzz. The work is crazy now visible to the delight of eager. And if the film disappoints a bit in terms of violence (even if it is harsh, we imagined worse), he proves that he is instantly Zombie. Varying scenes like clipesques parties, giving the impression of falling into a great trip macabre and funny at once. Recounting the story of a group of young people who fail and end up in the hut of a family of lunatics, the Firefly, which will be a pleasure to eradicate. Giving in a style similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre (indeed, Rob gives a role to Bill Moseley, actor in Chainsaw Massacre 2), more crazy, the film share a little in every sense and is very promising for a first try. Very funny when necessary, just as scary when necessary, the film flies through his gallery of character. Indeed, their creator will quickly fall in love and enjoy the small successes of the film to venture into a sequence: The Devil's Reject. No more delusions Series B, Robert decided this time to get to grips in reality, the Firefly out of their dens for a mare bloody right in the 70s. Pursued by a vengeful cop and a little crazy embodied by the excellent William Forsythe (his brother was massacred in the first film), we discover our killers in a new and disturbing .... In fact, Rob Zombie shows them more human, loving these killers, forming a family, doubting, jokingly. A gamble, criticism and censorship committee did not like that particular one makes passing garbage for normal people. But then, Rob judges no one and merely show with the greatest reduction possible even if one feels that he loves more than anything. Bet winner, the film is resolutely apart, besides being conducted with brio. In the process, our friend released a new album, Educated Horses, which, like The Devil's Reject, opted for something less horrific. Rob is trying more to fear, dropped the makeup and opts for a more classic look, based on long blond hair and denim jacket. The music loses its bite, and put more rock'n roll. While there is some pretty fireships, the album is clearly worse than the previous ones, with less charming ...

It became the custom, any new director making a horror film that is about to be offered a remake. Even if Rob Zombie has often said he would not fall into this trap, it will still accept a: Halloween. Rather fan of Carpenter's classic, the scalp is embarking on an adventure with the idea to give his paw. Halloween becomes a work of art in the moult as your insults are used but still keeps an eye to the original work. Thus, if the early changes the game by showing the children of Michael Myers, the result will be more traditional, very close to the film Big John. Like his film, fans are somewhat divided, unhappy to see the icon of evil, Myers most humanized but also satisfied with the form given by Rob. The film is nevertheless a masterpiece, a film both differ from the original and so close, which equals no problem, even if he does not enjoy the cult status, what does is not. Still, Rob enlist for a second opus that could upset even more fans, the Myers have a new look for the least different from before (basically, it's a bum). And before it will release a new album, currently titled Dark Revelation.

But Rob Zombie did not make it in recent years since having also produced an animated film from his own comic-strip: The Haunted World of El Superbeasto. More importantly, he earned recognition from his peers as has been proposed for a fake trailer for Grindhouse project of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Rob then creates a fake BA, as requested, with Nazi werewolves. Rob became what he wanted to be a child, recognized as a musical icon and soon film. It has even been immortalized in talking dolls and figurines, the image of Freddy, Jason and Michael Myers as he likes. And even if they become popular, unfortunately only in the U.S. because he refuses to turn in Europe (his circus gear was too expensive to transport), it has not changed. All the money he earns is only used to be spent in her charms to taste like an electric chair or armor. Rob is still the old fan, who makes films fan for fans. And that's why we love him, Rob Zombie, because he is generous and honest.
