It must be said that is: horror movies that are really scared are not legion. Even the famous do not necessarily unanimity among fantasticophiles. If Ring passes for a model with fear, others are chiantissime. Same for Evil Dead, cult for the majority, which did not prevent him being booed by some. Although difficult is the job that scares ... Anyway, many genre films do not even try to tear you cry, some just being fun or disgusting. But Suspiria is not one of those there. Argento does not care a lot to make people laugh and entertain the gallery, he wants the audience shudders, falls into a waking nightmare. And he succeeded without difficulty, Italian. Proof is: Suspiria is one of the few films that pleases almost everyone who saw it (and who have predispositions for style, admittedly). The story is very simple: Suzy Banner, a young American, arrives in Germany to integrate one of the best dance school in the world. Arriving in the night of thunderstorms and showers, she encounters a student who seems to flee the school, shouting incomprehensible things. The next day we learned she was brutally murdered. And yes, it says as you could imagine in a thriller, like "Derrick and ballerinas. Hardly surprising coming from Argento, one of the greatest authors of Giallo, such mixing and police terror. But make no mistake, Suspiria is a horror movie, pure and hard, the investigative aspect not taking an important place in the plot. Besides, we're down to the murders of patients could be like those of Shivers of Dread, for example. Finish the killers leather gloves that made the success of gender, place the supernatural and bizarre murders, difficult to explain. Suspiria is anyway a strange film, and this in many ways ...

In fact, the history of Suspiria is not necessarily the main attraction of the film. Argento did not care probably also because it is mainly a graphic designer, who spent more time treating his insights as his script. But anyway, the history you do not expect much when the movie started, because you will be taped by the plastic film. Suspiria is beautiful in every sense of the term. Argento was already highly regarded for his work on the realization of his previous films, but he surpasses himself here. Just look at the lights, moving from one color to another, according to the documents and situations, like a ghost train taking you to the end of the night. And the sets are far from being at rest. All such splendid enigmatic at the limit of the baroque and esoteric. The school is labyrinthine, its structure seemed to defy all logic viewed as the girls in her spot. Yet when they walk to follow these tracks sound, they go in different directions! Evil fucking? Perhaps, but it's devilishly effective because it really gets the feeling of being in a nightmare. In these, the logic is completely absent, so why clutter it here? It has already disappeared long ago with the arrival of these spectral lights. And so much the better. For it is through this that Suspiria is the ultimate horror movie. Although it is true, helped by a soundtrack with onions, again composed by his buddies from The Goblins, already responsible for the music of several of his previous films. Difficult to describe, it is a kind of mixture between music and ambient electro, embellished with some whispers of witches. Guaranteed effect since these scores do increase the scare factor.

Of course, the atmosphere is very important in a film, but it remains that caresses certainly unhealthy here, but still caresses. What is needed from time to time, it is a good solid punch history to avoid drowsiness. No worries on that side there, Dario knows how to do, coming to offer us long murder and yet terribly effective. It seems clear that the maestro see these killings as something beautiful, we could ultimately see them as sexual acts. Does he not take the fun and not n'émoustille THERE viewers by prolonging the suspense, like foreplay? And the final blow, always gore, it is not absolute enjoyment? Some may be able to grumble a little that the film is old (more than thirty years now) and that the effects are not necessarily valid. Yes the blood is pink, so the image is antiquated and yes, it's a damn stamp! The age of a film is important and those which age most are those which are most popular. But Suspiria is timeless. His party took place the graphic away from these little worries and even though it would be unfortunate to miss a centerpiece for trivia. If it should be only one horror movie is it.
