There are spirits which are waiting for nothing. They have not disappointed us, far from it, but because they have already created so many masterpieces that can not possibly imagine they will go even further. Yet Myazaki part of this very private circle and we proved it in 2001 with Spirited Away.

Let's put us in the context of time: the last Myazaki Princess Mononoke was released a few years earlier and was the first to find success outside of insiders japanimation. Stronger, the film will create passion and show the world that anime is not that Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. And of course, is also the small bomb that was about Hayao Myazaki to many people. So of course, the maestro was expected at the turn, and not a little ... And despite his filmography all envy, it has not been easy for him to go after what that monster anime Mononoke Hime. Moreover, it should probably be aware that it will hardly better in epic, so far from a totally different direction. He then got down to the story of Chihiro, a young girl a little temperamental whiner and that when she moves, falls into a fantasy world where his parents are caught, transformed into pigs. History of giving back to his family a human appearance, she will have to work in the building of baths, including the terrible Yubaba who withdrew his name, the renaming Sen. And as stated in the original title (Sen To Chihiro), it will have to remember to change. Spirited Away is radically different from its older and hardly comparable. What is certain is that he is as good or better ...

Forget about fighting with swords or bows and arrows, the events of our little heroine is more commonplace at the base, that is to say wash the soil, prepare baths, ... But they will not stay long , customers are at least individuals ... For in this world, there are only minds, all the more strange than the others. Myazaki draws from Japanese mythology, which obviously inspired many, and we released a bestiary of families. Quite simply, the good fifty characters presented to us, most were found to be quite significant. Whether this huge pile of mud that comes to washing, this strange character soft white light that Chihiro encounters in the elevator or the eerie faceless, all likely to be anchored in your memory. All do not have the honor to be important in the film but they all contribute to its success is obvious. Some help the girl, like the enigmatic Haku, while others will rather serve as spokes in the wheels ... If at first you can imagine that Chihiro will pass a test to another fairly linear as Hercules had his twelve labors, one quickly realizes that favors Myazaki surprise. Quite clever man who has managed to guess the rest of the film for more than his other films, the director surprises. New characters are their regular appearances, each time moving the plot continually revived. Spirited Away is a movie in the continuity of other works by Hayao since denying any continuity precisely to reverse all at any time. And as always with him, you feel immediately concerned by what is happening before our eyes ...
For if the story seems less dramatic, more light than were those of Nausicaa or Mononoke, it is ultimately nothing. Chihiro does not need to be a warrior to make the audience tense and what she saw was not particularly enviable even the wonderful world in which it landed. His journey is as exciting as the other heroines of the author of Porco Rosso and is deeper than you think. To regain her world and her parents, Chihiro must find his name, so to find herself. However, if it remains the whiny little girl she is early footage, it would never be released. Chihiro must simply grow, keep what made it what it is all childish erasing imperfections. Quite annoying at first, it quickly becomes as engaging as all the other characters, if not more. Stronger still, Myazaki happens to make it more beautiful over the film while the design does not change. Nevertheless, even if this girl is charming, the film is not entirely focused on his frail shoulders. No, what makes the charm and immediately propelled into the category "Best Anime ever created," is this fantastic world. Very detailed, beautifully designed, it is a dream world which is proposed here. A world that seems very large when, finally, it is not shown much (a village, building baths, Island Zeniba, not much more). Both joyous and mystical worrying is clearly a place that deserves to be set up in park. This world is still sublimated by the music that we no longer, Joe Hisaishi, who gives one of his finest work, which means everything ... And for animation, is it useful to talk about? Everyone knows that Myazaki treats his films in the extreme, Chihiro no exception to the rule and is a true marvel of those you put stars in your eyes and you dream about at night. And the coup that make the alarm even harder.

Spirited Away still leaves a strange impression. The film to be a best-of, since we think of My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's early enough for the joy that gradually mutates into something more tense and films like Mononoke or Nausicaa for the universe and the journey of initiation. Also add a pinch of Porco Rosso for the nostalgic side. But yet, this Alice in Wonderland nippon has its own identity, an aura of its own. A masterpiece that is new from something old and is probably the best film of the master ... Essential for any fan of Japanese anime that respect ...
